What does Zhi Bai Di Huang Wan do?
Zhi Bai Di Huang Wan is a Chinese Medicinal Formula that is utilized when a patient has been diagnosed as having insufficient liver and kidney yin plus heat signs. It has been considered especially helpful and is commonly prescribed in China for menopausal women experiencing hot flashes. Symptoms that can be associated with insufficient liver and kidney yin are night sweats, hot flashes, flushed face, red cheeks, nocturnal emissions, chronic sore throat, frequent urination of dark, small amounts of urine, lower back pain, low grade fever in the afternoons, and uneasiness. It has been suggested for patients who have been undergoing long term use of steroids or thyroid hormone replacement therapy as these people sometimes develop deficient Yin of the Kidney and Liver. For this same reason it has also been utilized in treating Aids or cancer (specifically those undergoing radiation treatments) patients. Illnesses sometimes associated with insufficient kidney and liver yin may be: central retinitis, chronic nephritis, chronic glomerulonephritis, diabetes mellitus, functional uterine bleeding, hyperthyroidism, hypertension, optic neuritis, optic nerve atrophy, pulmonary tuberculosis, neurashenia, urinary tract infections, and some wasting diseases. It should be noted that these conditions should not be treated with Zhi Bai Di Huang Wan without the knowledge and consent of your health care professional.
Should my health care professional be advised before I take Zhi Bai Di Huang Wan?
It is always good to keep your health care practitioner updated on medications, herbals, supplements or other therapies you may be participating in. They should be consulted first if you have any of these conditions, as Zhi Bai Di Huang Wan usage may be contraindicated: Pathogenic illness Weakness of spleen and stomach A tendency towards allergic reactions to other medicines, herbs, foods, dyes, or preservatives.

How should I take this formula?
Take Zhi Bai Di Huang Wan Pills by mouth. Swallow the pills with a large drink of warm water.

What do I need to watch out for with Zhi Bai Di Huang Wan?
There are many different brands of Chinese patent medicines and as with medicinal herbs, care should be taken with purchasing. Incorrectly labeled products and/or the presence of contaminants, adulterations, or substitutions have all been reported in conjunction with Chinese patent medicines. Contaminants such as heavy metals and/or substitutions with pharmaceutical drugs (over the counter and prescription) are a serious health hazard. There have been reported cases of Chinese medicinal products being sold as Zhi Bai Di Huang Wan that were not, in fact, this formula. Use of known, recommended brands may reduce this possibility. container that small children cannot open.

Can you tell me a little more about Zhi Bai Di Huang Wan?
Zhi Bai Di Huang Wan is a Chinese Medicine whose formula was 1st listed in "Pattern, Cause, Pulse, and Treatment" (Zheng Yin Mai Zhi) by Dr. Qin Jing-Ming in 1702 AD. It is a variation on Liu Wei Di Huang Wan (Six-Ingredient Pill with Rehmannia). It is one of a series of medicines that nourish and tonify Yin. Environment, lifestyle, and deep chronic illnesses are thought to have a substantial effect on the liver and kidneys. It is considered important to maintain balanced Liver and Kidney Yin as it is thought to play a significant role in the whole b.d. Yin. Zhi Bai Di Huang Wan is used specifically for deficiencies of the liver and kidney Yin. It is used to eliminate ascending Yang (fire) in Ming Men (life Gate). In treating hot flashes during menopause (due to deficient kidney yin) it can be combined with Ren Shen Gu Ben Wan (which will clear empty fire, nourish yin, and increase bodily fluids).
